#timeconfig(Yes, you do have to be root.) What pops up is a Timezones Configure dialog box you can use to set your time zone. There is also the option to enable/disable "Hardware clock set to GMT." As said, you want to disable. timeconfig is a 2002 RedHat tool, so don't know if it's on your system or not. But surely there's an equivalent.
