keyboard messed up after kernel-compilation

 Hi,

I recently installed debian (woody) on my new 12-inch powerbook G4. For the installation
 I had to download a kernel-image from

 http://valla.uchicago.edu/ppc/pbG412.html

which works. Now I downloaded the kernel-source code from Benjamin Herrenschmidt's
Linux page using rsync and recompiled it. When I boot the new kernel, my keyboard
is messed up (yes, db raw and all those other options in the macintosh-device drivers menu
were already set, I did not change anything there). Otherwise the kernel boots. Is there
any other option I have to set ?

Since the downloaded kernel is working, I do not
think that it is anything in an /etc/... configuration file, but I am new to debian and
 Powerbook.

Best regards and thanks a lot,

   Karsten
