yes it sound's a little confusing.
while checking the yaboot.conf man page, you will find that you  can
specify the ofboot and device using the "real" OF path for those
variables.

I use the following (you should adjust to your settings)

boot=/dev/hda2
ofboot=/pci@f2000000/mac-io@17/ata-4@1f000/disk@0:2

device=/pci@f2000000/mac-io@17/ata-4@1f000/disk@0:
