Ah hah. so

nvsetenv boot-device /bandit/gc/mesh/sd@0:0

should work better. Oldworlds use boot blocks, and although quik writes
the boot block on a given partition, old broken versions of open
firmware must be pointed to the '0' partition to read the boot block.
