iBook2 700:
DivX is much easier to decode than DVD. I play high bitrates DivX
without any problem with 30% of the CPU. The battery lasts more than 3
hours without any effort in this configuration. mplayer can play DVD
without any visible problem (the sound seems not to be downsample, but
this is hard to notice, except on the music). I don't know anything
about battery usage in this configuration.
Note that DVD should be accelerated with Michel's drivers, but mplayer
say that it is not the case (well, this may be a libmpeg2 problem).

Yes. However, G4 has got Altivec which will greatly help.
