Re: starting apache is unreliable

As I said, the error log is empty.

The /etc/init.d/apache basically starts up apache with apachectl.
Trying it at the command line does this:
##############
linux:~# apachectl status

Looking up localhost
localhost
Making HTTP connection to localhost
Alert!: Unable to connect to remote host.

lynx: Can't access startfile http://localhost/server-status
linux:~#

#######################
linux:~# apachectl configtest
Syntax OK
linux:~#
##################
linux:~# apachectl start
/usr/sbin/apachectl start: httpd started
linux:~#
##################
...only it starts and immediately dies.

any other ideas?
