Plug one end of the cable into the RS/6000 serial port. Plug the other
into your other machine. On that machine, start minicom, and configure
it to us (e.g.) ttyS0,9600,8n1 (Ctrl-A-Z to get a menu in minicom). Exit
from the config dialog, but leave minicom running. Now boot the RS/6000,
you should see the startup messages in minicom.

(I understand that different boxes may use different default speeds on
the console port, so you may have to fiddle to get the right value, but
9600 has worked on the few RS/6000s I've had to deal with.)
