Yes, that was what it said.
But since my XF86Config-4 had a Device section corresponding
to the card, I thought the xserver had a bug -- after all, all
evidences led me to think so, since the fbdev driver didn't
need the pci slot being specified (thinking about it, of
course not). Also, my i386 experience helped make me think
that the BusID option wasn't necessary.

Oh, now it makes sense. Thank you very much, Michel. (And it
was actually a good thing that Branden is asking this
information in recent debconfs).
BTW, Branden, if you're reading this, could you make the
debconf for xserver-xfree86 ask the user if he wants a font
server running? In my computers (which are quite limited in
RAM), I usually don't have xfs running and comment it from
XF86Config.
If debconf took care of that, I'd let it take complete control
of my X configuration, not having to worry about upgrades or
hand-editing files.
