Yes, this is due to:

776)frell$ uname -m
ppc
777)frell$ file /usr/lib/libfakeroot.so.0.0.1
setuid ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1, stripped
                                     ^^^^^^^^^^^

It's already been reported as bug #114373.  Based on my testing, it
looks like it should build properly for architectures other than i386
once the source tar file is properly cleaned.

Patch to kludge around the problem:
