The least you can get away with is to build the server(s) and driver(s) only. Just get only the -1 source tarball and do
cp xc/config/cf/{xf86site,host}.def
edit xc/config/cf/host.def and #define BuildServersOnly YES (and change the
list of drivers to be built, ...) and do make World .
