Strange things when playing audio CDs on IMac

I have to ask this question here coz I can't think of anywhere else to
ask it.

After my IMac has been up and running for more than 48 hours I start
to get IDE bus dropouts whilst playing audio CDs. When the CDs get
ejected they are really hot to touch.

I'm not sure if it's my IMac or whether there is something more
serious... perhaps MacOS powers the rom drive down after a period of
timeout and Linux doesn't?


Anyone else seen this problem?
