Well, as it turns out I *do* have /dev/pmu, c 10 154.  I got that
warning when I ran snooze -f as a normal user; as root it warns me
that it is not advised and then goes to sleep.

My kernels all have pmu support.  I'm sorry, I've really not been
giving enough information on this thread.
