G4 Debian Install problem

I've successfully installed debian on my G4 on an external scsi hard drive,
including a bootstrap partition, and (i assume) accurately set the boot
parameters of yaboot through the instructions given in the debian install
instructions, use ofpath to determine the path and mkofboot to point yaboot
to my the bootstrap and root directory.

upon boot, yaboot successfully launches and shows me an icon of the linux
harddrive, but when it is selected, it says it cannot find the kernel.


i've searched through the mail list archives for some help on how to troubleshoot,
but can't come up with a solution.

i would appreciate some suggestions as to how i can troubleshoot this and
get booted.
