Can't change initial video mode on a 7200

I tried to set the initial video mode on my 7200/90 in quik.conf:
image=/boot/vmlinux-2.2.19
label=Linux
read-only
append=video=platinumfb:vmode:12,cmode:16
But according to dmesg, my vmode is being ignored:
Total VRAM = 1MB 0001
Monitor sense value = 0x60b, using video mode 13 and color mode
0.
Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 104x39
fb0: platinum frame buffer device
(Mode 13 is 832x624@75Hz; mode 12 is 800x600@75Hz, so it should be
achievable by my multisync monitor.)
Mode 13 looks to be what the resolution was set to before I installed
Linux. The code for the Platinum driver looks like it will read the
vmode and cmode from NVRAM if they weren't given as kernel
parameters.
Is there something wrong with my "append=" line in quik.conf? If not,
can anyone offer any suggestions on why the Platinum driver isn't
picking up the kernel parameters, before I dive into the code,
strewing printk()s left and right?
