ATI Rage Pro & XFree 4.0.3 config problems

Mouse: USB Logitech Optical (w/wheel) Video card: ATI Xclaim 3D (which contains, as I understand it, the Rage Pro chip. There are so many similarly named variants of ATI boards, that I could be mistaken, but the actual chip does have the phrase "3D Rage Pro" written on it.) Video memory: 8 Meg Monitor: Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 91, a new and moderately high-end monitor which should be very accepting of almost any synch rates, I should think. The rates I entered in the XF86Config file (via xf86config) are directly from the spec page in my owner's guide.
