Yes, I am. I'm not quite sure where to start. I was pretty disappointed that the _Sleep function (in macos, viewed under macsbug) is written in 68k asm, which I know none of. I'm about to get ahold of a reference so that'll be a start.

Absolutely. This is my #1 priority at the moment.
Currently you can dim the screen, but nothing else.

I believe they're out and they do kick some serious ass :)

But, you're right, power manangement is essential for a laptop.

I think Paul mentioned that even though MacOS X server runs on the G3 powerbooks, it doesn't support sleep (am I wrong here?)

As a side note, I got somewhere between 5-10 people come up to me at the Linux expo and ask me lots of questions about Linux on the powerbooks...mostly people who were considering getting one of the nice new slim ones instead of YAPC.
