Bug#140757: debian-policy: init.d script shouldn't be executable by non-root

I'm not sure I agree. If /etc/init.d were in the default path, then
yes, it would be bad. But as it is, this strikes me as no worse than
the error message you get if you say "source /usr/bin/vi".

As the old saying goes, if you try to make a system idiot-proof,
they'll just invent better idiots. Ordinary users shouldn't be trying
to run init.d scripts, or trying to interpret ELF binaries with their
shells.

The existing system works just fine. Yes, the error message may be a
little unclear, but that's all that's wrong. It's just an error
message, and it only appears to people who misuse the system. Unless
we also decide to "fix" the "problem" with "source /usr/bin/vi", then I
oppose this proposal, as it's silly to go to a lot of effort to fix
one problem of this sort without fixing them all.

Bottom line: you were WAAAAAY out of line to claim that a COSMETIC
issue like a confusing error message deserved a severity: normal bug
(#139609). Confusing error messages are either minor or wishlist. On
the other hand, the gdm maintainer probably should have corrected the
severity, rather than closing the bug out-of-hand. I suggest that you
talk to him about reopening it as a wishlist bug, and accept the fact
that he may well mark it "wontfix", and live with it.
