(For reference, this is one of those cases where I'd just say "Oh, well,
abiword's an exception then".)

Out of curiousity, what happens with abiword if the font's installed
locally, but isn't listed in the fontpath? (Assuming it is installed
remotely, and the remote font server's functioning)
