Umm, I have problems with any developer, no matter how
important a package they maintain, dictating policy by fiat.

Ok. But then we get a discussion. and alternatives. And
perhaps a slightly different implementation, or a whole lot of
people who are better informed about the design decisions, and a
record of said discussion in -policy, and perhaps a more educated
rationale.
