1) is the best and simplest option. indexes are quite easy to re-build.
This would also make simpler the purge of old indexes. This problem
arise when debian upgraded from perl 5.8 to perl 5.10: all 5.8 modules
were removed but perlindex does not purge the entries when run with
-index option. I had to remove manually the index in /var/cache.
