This is mostly obvious for modules starting with a very commonly used name - like HTML-*, XML-* Class-*, CGI-* etc. The by-modyle directory for these is really huge and migrating these to search.cpan.org/dist/ is a clear win - both to DEHS and to cpan.org mirrors (unless DEHS caches downloaded indices). search.cpan.org/dist/ is also faster for the uploader who needs the upstream source before building the package. Yes, there are some cases when the index returned by search.cpan.org/dist/ is actually bigger than the corresponding by-module/ index. These cases are rare, however and the lose is not that big, especially compared to the gain with HTML-* etc. -- dam JabberID: dam@jabber.minus273.org
