I chose the metapackage as this was the best I found.

Right, I did the test install from within a clean virtualbox installation and
filed the bug report from my work laptop, sorry for the messed up version numbers.

Steps to reproduce:
Install from etch net-installer, select desktop task.
Then make an upgrade to lenny.

I haven't installed any java package by hand!

As I said, I installed a fresh etch system with the gnome desktop task, and
after the lenny update, I got all the above java packages.
This is perfectly reproducible, so removing this tag again.

Huh, in what way? Again, I haven't installed a single java package manually.
All the above packages have been pulled via dependenices of OO.o.
