But the etch install did.
 - gcj-4.1-base
 - gij-4.1
 - gij
 - libgcj-bc
 - libgcj-common
 - libgcj7-0
 - libgcj7-awt
 - libgcj7-jar
 - libhsqldb-java
 - libjaxp1.3-java
 - libjline-java
 - libservlet2.3-java
 - libxalan2-java
 - libxerces2-java
 - libxt-java

The openoffice.org metapackage depends on
  a) openoffice.org-base. Uses hsqldb as database engine so depends
     on libhsqldb-java + JVM
  b) openoffice.org-java-common. Takes xalan, xerces etc into the system.

So the stuff you see above is just an upgrade (and the
install of java-gcj-compat) NOT a install of additional Java stuff..

Same with the -gcj packages, openoffice.org-gcj is in the desktop task.

Just because you had them before.

Or via the desktop task - so you already have them in etch (although
with a lower version like with the g{c,i}j[,-* ones}

I think I already have enough information to close this bug. This is
not a case of packages installed in addition (except the gcj packages itseld)
