Oh, old kernel...
But the problem here might be the i586....

OOo is built with -mtune=pentiumpro since long ago (1.0.1-6...[1]) - otherwise it would be even more
slow, see the changelog - which is a i686... Might be it just happened to use a i686-specific
instruction right now (changed gcc etc.)

  * Revert back to compiling i386 with -mcpu=pentiumpro, since it will make
    OOo run faster on the majority of machines (P5 generation is too
    slow for OOo, but it will still work fine if someone really wants to run
    it).
