I have pushed a changelog built using "gbp dch -aR" (please let me know if I didn't do it properly).
Since this is the very first release of the package, I think that it is not necessary to document the Git history in d/changelog. I would just include the single line:
* Initial release (closes: #799173) as it was in commit 6770140.
