Re: Some thoughts
Edgar,
Indeed there has been some work to create a debian-np server distro,
and we have looked at a few tools, including dischosting, to do
management of the server. Everyone has been waiting for the killer
free-software replacement to cpanel, and there are a number of
projects in the works (riseup and resist have been working on one
called baobob, autistici have been working on one called salmonila,
there is also the http://www.openvps.org project, which is vserver and
redhat based and need we mention webmin?), but unfortunately, all of
them are still somewhat immature and need some serious development and
time to make them happen.
If I had either the money or time, I would hire people and get it done
in a few months, or do it myself :)
All of this is to say... you are right about the NP-server aspect (I
leave the workstation side to the freegeekers and mako etc. to hash
out), and if you are interested in helping out you should consider
stepping into the development side of things by visiting
