I believe that James Hunt has the technical skills needed to maintain Debian packages. I support his application to become a Debian maintainer, because he has excellent portable C programming skills and good knowledge of Linux, *BSD and other Unix systems. He has a good grasp of sh, python, Make and sound understanding of the Debian Policy. His packaging experience has mostly been with C/automake applications, but he is starting to diverge into other packaging techniques (e.g. python scripts/modules, DEP-8 autopkgtests, stable abi libraries, etc). I have been sponsoring his uploads of procenv / utfout into Debian, and also reviewing his packaging changes for upstart. I recommend to grand James Hunt the status of Debian Maintainer. I hope eventually James will be working towards applying for Debian Developer with uploading rights status. -- Regards Dmitrijs.
