2. Background
-------------
Applicant writes:
I started using GNU/Linux back in 2000 when some friends were excited
about this OS and told me to try Slackware. At that time I had no idea
what 'free software' really was, i just knew that you didn't have to pay
for it and that you can share the code freely.
Later in 2003 at the FlashParty [0] (a Demoparty), I saw a guy installing
"Woody" which seemed to be more friendly to configure and to install than
Slackware so I ended giving it a try. A couple of years later when I had
more knowledge about Debian I decided that was time to give back something
to the OS and its community by packaging software, reporting bugs, translating
package's descriptions, and now I'd like to make this commitment to Debian
a little bit more official.
Now related to Debian, I packaged a couple of apps adopting most of them
and uploading one on my own (well, with help of a DD), translating
through DDTP, reporting bugs and closing them when I had the chance.
I'm primarily interested in packaging: maintaining, reporting and closing
bugs, introducing new software. Helping new user to do the same thing.
And as i said in my previous email to the front-desk, I'd like to help
the community and the organizations that doesn't have the money or the
resources to pay 300 u$s in licences or the newest computers to run the
latest cutting-edge-software. Or course many of these things can be done
without being DD, but being one would help me to achieve these goals.

3. Philosophy and Procedures
-----------------------------
Mauro has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and procedures
and answered all my questions about the social contract,
DFSG, BTS, etc. in a good way. Mauro committed to uphold the SC and DFSG
in his Debian work and accepts the DMUP.
4. Tasks and Skills
-------------------
Mauro has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian.
Mauro is maintainer of essays1743, mined, ttf-breip, ttf-summersby,
xeji, metacity-themes, python-osd, and python-twitter (sponsored by
Marcela Tiznado <mlt@debian.org> and many others).
All packages are in good shape.
Mauro also answered my other questions regarding T&S without
problems.
5. Recommendation

I recommend to accept Mauro as a Debian Developer.
