Thanks for the input!
Your position reinforces mine that anycast - though technically
beautiful in some situations - doesn't really cut it in our case.
For now I'll go forward and attempt a software approach, but if any
other better suggestions arise (or someone gives some good reason to go
with anycast) I have no problem with contributing some time to help a
parallel or - better yet - congruent project!
