thank you for your explanation and pointers, I modified the debian/rules file
accordingly.

anyhow still building a kernel fails, because "make-kpkg clean" tells me about a
missing "kimagesrc" and I definitely have no clue which value I should give to
this - I tried a simple "kimagesrc := /tmp" in /etc/kernel-pkg.conf, but this
led me to finally get the trouble at the end of the whole package-building:
