Decstation 5000/240 mop boot

I just got a decstation 5000/240 w/ a cdrom but no hdd and have been
trying to set it up for nfsroot (under any os). The firmware version
(KN03-AA V5.1b) is listed by netbsd as not being tftp-capable (and a
brief test seemed to support that.)

Using mopd to load a variety of linux kernels (both r3k and r4k, debian
versions, versions off the web, etc) all result in an identical TLBS
(tlb store) error. (The guys on #mipslinux suggest that sounds like a
wrong-endian or wrong-cpu issue..)

Full bootrom hw tests pass (except lack of printer and mouse).

The netbsd install images will load over mop - according to the mopd -
but then it just sits there (if I press ctrl-c it goes back to the
bootrom prompt.)

Not sure what other info might be useful; the mopd servers are both
intel, and some info on the web hints that that might be a problem, but
there wasn't anything conclusive..

(Some cut&paste below.. the cdrom is currently not attached)

..the RML lines repeat every couple seconds forever (or at least for
15-20 mins, which is as long as I left it..)
