Thank you both and kokoye2007for your feedback and for enduring my ignorance.

wrar, for some reason I did not receive your very helpful reply on debian mentors that you linked me to. I will of course now follow your advise and clean things up.

Boyua, I would be happy to assist or take over from the current maintainer in whatever capacity they desire.
