I would suggest using the official tarballs:

If you prefer to use a copy of the git repository, you will need to
build the build system first using dh-autoreconf:

http://packages.debian.org/unstable/dh-autoreconf

I tried both --with autotools-dev and --with dh-autoreconf but still
I see a empty binary error message.

Let me make it easier for you (and me). I will check the code and
release a version, hopefully tomorrow. This should ease the work on you
a bit as you would be using a released version. I will take the
opportunity to add good --help and --version output so man pages can be
available via help2man, for both the script and the binary.

That is, unless you take the challenge of using the Git repo, but I
really haven't use dh_autoreconf before.

Ready. I created a new release 0.3. This should make it easier for you. Tools have -v for version, which you can use with help2man --version-option=-v (so help2man doesn't try --version but -v).

As Paul said, if you download it from Github, you will need to generate the ./configure script first by running ./autogen.sh, so would have to be reflected in debian/rules; dh should help with that.

So, instead of the above, I recommend downloading it from:

http://blog.alvarezp.org/desarrollos/audiosum/ -- because it's in Spanish, here's the direct download link:

http://blog.alvarezp.org/files/audiosum-0.3.tar.gz

This one includes ./configure already, so you should be able to save your step one important step and ground one variable down.

If you have any problems with the rules or questions about the tarball itself, drop me an e-mail message. I just ask you not to send the mail message in HTML but in plain text, so console output keeps its visual alignment.

Good luck, and thanks.
