Hum... The little that I know is that python (<< 2.4) is put
automatically because of some things that have changed on version 2.4
I really don't know what have changed. Maybe someone that uses Python
could tell us.

But, if you are going to get your package on Debian, you will need this.
You are going to do a Debian package to Debian systems! :-)

Maybe if you send the source to your friend, he could create the package
on the Ubuntu system. I think that it will create a package OK to use on
Ubuntu.

Or you could create a package only to your friend, with
Depends: python (>= 2.3)
So, you would get the Debian version with
Depends: python (>= 2.3), python (<< 2.4) and your friend without the
restriction of 2.4
