Indeed. Packaging libraries is NOT for those who do not have a firm grasp of
how these things plug together. Some experience on packaging other stuff is
usually a very good idea before you tack on a library. Most of the time,
you CANNOT trust upstream to have done things in a sane way. You have to
triple-check it.
