Normally, you're right, but:

There may be some pkgs refusing to build under fakeroot (there are
some I read of IIRC).

If that's the case here, you can set DEBFULLNAME="..." and
DEBEMAIL="..." and then -- if it's necessary -- use the -k option to
dpkg-buildpackage.
