I see following problems then:

- Likes of carestream might already be on its wrong side, as the images
  they produce are 8 bit. I doubt whether they have country specific
  version that makes 12 bit images. (Or may be there is a configurable
  option somewhere that I may have missed.)

- Given my searches on 10/12 bit depth monitors I'd be surprised if it's
  such a common practice use 10/12 bit monitors. May be one can try and
  take a sneak peak and check. And assuming they do, the above point also
  has to hold good on top of it.

But the point taken. I'll try and retain the bits in the driver once my
calibration work is over. At this stage I am just trying to mimic the
proprietary software closely, to reduce the number of variables to juggle
with.
