not quite... I must confess that we have also committed our ignorance
toward backports.debian whenever it was yet to become official, and
initial "pipeline" for backporting was a bit too cumbersome.  So we just
initiated NeuroDebian repository with backports not only for Debian but
also for Ubuntus.  It has no relation/connection to now official
backports.debian.org, although the script Michael has developed
[http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=660208] could easily
be used to formalize automated backport builds for the official Debian
as well.  So whenever time comes we might just do backports to official
Debian -- just needs time and motivation to do that.

yeap ;)  moreover there is a temporal gap effect -- now we upload to
NeuroDebian virtually always in sync with upload to Debian unstable.
For official backports we would need to wait for propagation to testing,
and by then we would simply forget, thus those backport uploads would
always be on per-request basis as an afterthought ;)
