CfP - 13th Libre Software Meeting, Geneva, SWITZERLAND

Hi,

I'm forewarding a very intersting CfP to the Debian Med list. I did
participate in LSM several times since the first event in 2000 and
specifically I joined the medical track (if existed). It sounds a bit
unfortunate that the date conflicts exactly with DebConf however, there
are some reasons for me I might not join DebConf this year
(unfortunately :-() and so this might be another good chance for Debian
Med people to join at an event in Europe.

I just copy my submissions for events here to enable additional comments
from the Debian Med community (I'd be happy to do a presentation in
common with others!)

First Submission:

Topic: Hospital information systems and telehealth
Title: Integration of VistA into Debian
  Abstract:
The Debian Med project aims at integration of all important free
medical software into Debian and so VistA is on the todo list for
a long time. We now gathered the necessary knowledge and manpower
to fullfill this goal and finally found the means to tackle the
goal for an "apt-get install vista". At the time of writing this
does not yet work however, the talk will cover the way the Debian
Med team works together with upstream, spreading the knowledge of
Debian packaging and finally be the missing link between developers
of free medical software and users in medical care.
  Speakers:
     Andreas Tille <tille@debian.org>
??? anybody else? (Luis, I'd be more than happy!)
  Biography:
I'm a physicist by profession and working as an information
scientist at a medical institute. I'm using Free Software since
1994 and became a Debian Developer in 1998. The Debian Med project
was initiated by me in 2002.

Second submission:

Topic: Imaging and visualisation of medical data
  Title: Medical imaging using Debian
  Abstract:
The Debian Med has integrated a lot of medical imaging software.
     An overview is given here:
       http://debian-med.alioth.debian.org/tasks/imaging
for example GDCM, ITK, VTK and we actively try to include more (see
our todo list at the bottom of the linked page). Medical imaging
became a very strong branch of the Debian Med project and besides
the introduction what software is just installable inside Debian I
would like to discuss with the audience what might be needed next
to possibly fullfill user needs even better.
  Speakers:
     Andreas Tille <tille@debian.org>
??? anybody else? (Matthieu, I'd be more than happy!)

To the organisers: Please tell me whether you regard a workshop about
packaging medical applications for Debian would make sense. I'd
volunteer to do so.

Kind regards

     Andreas.

Last call before deadline : march *31* 2012

Dear Colleague,

The 13th Libre Software Meeting (LSM) takes place in Geneva,
Switzerland, July 7-12 2012 (http://2012.rmll.info/).

LSM is an annual non-commercial conference on Libre Softwares that
includes round tables and practical workshops. The objective is to
provide a place where users, developers and promoters of Libre Software
can exchange ideas and information. Attendance is free and open to
everyone.

Each year the health workshop is held as part of this broader meeting.
This year, it will be organized around 3 major fields:
- Accessibility, autonomy and dependency management (mobile/web
accessibility, accessible desktop applications, usability, ...)
- Hospital information system & Tele-health (EHR, telemedicine systems,
workflow solutions, PACS, HL7, ...)
- Imaging & visualization of medical data (CAS, CAD, bio-imaging, image
acquisition/processing/segmentation/registration, simulation, organ
tracking ...)
We invite presentations that address these major fields.

The LSM committee aims to disseminate and improve Libre projects in the
health domain through this workshop. To better target the various
exchanges that will be taking place, the programme committee of the
health workshop proposes several kinds of meetings:
- "Solution" meetings, with conferences and round tables to present
solutions dedicated to previous areas.
- "State of the art" conferences between practitioners, developers and
scientists to discuss about what exists according to the specific needs
of users, what works well or a little less well, to talk about approaches...
- "Technical" presentations between developers and scientists. This will
allow initiation of exchanges between communities that do not
necessarily have the opportunity to meet and will maybe lead to new
collaborations or projects.

Finally, a workshop area will be available to try out and exchange tools
presented by their authors or by seasoned users of those solutions.

Last year the health workshop received (for example) the following
projects: OsiriX, FreeMedForms, GDCM, Chewing Word, ITK, VTK, WEASIS,
... Information on health workshops from previous annual meetings are
available on :
You will be able to attend conferences on other related issues such as
"System Administration" (like Nagios, GLPI, Cfengine, ...),
"Development" (like NoSQL, Lucene, GCC, ...), "Law" (like
Licenses,OpenData, FSF, ...), "Internet" (WebGL, Jabber, Typo3, ...),
... All conferences are available on :

This year, LSM will have also 3 transversal topics (thread) :
- Cloud
- Common goods
- "Libre" economy

If you are interested to participate, please submit your presentation
at: http://call.rmll.info/talk/new

Please feel free to share this information with others people who may be
interested. We welcome your participation and input and look forward for
a valuable meeting.

*IMPORTANT* *DATES*:
