This will our discussion on this topic at the "right place" to benefit other
users of BioImage Suite who perhaps are not related to Debian-Med. You will
need to register on the forum in order to post.

I did so. Is there any chance to trigger an e-mail to the registered
address once a posting is added to the topic? I admit I'm quite lazy
to browse several forums and I prefere a notice if something happens
that might be interesting.

2. My only other request is for those of you from the Debian-Med group who
are interested to either post on the forum or send me a short private e-mail
some information about themselves. Either a URL to a home page or a short
description of your current work/interests will be fine. This will enable us
on this side to have a sense of whom we are working with.

See my signature and perhaps this (autogenerated) page which gives an
overview about my Debian packaging activities:

We are very interested in interacting with the Debian-Med project, my only
reservation at this point as expressed in a private exchange with Andreas is
that much of the test-data for BioImage Suite is (for now) not
redistributable as it comes with various strings attached (code is easier to
redistribute than data).

Perhaps we can find some free data for pre-testing (and yes, I admit that
there are data that should not be free).

A good first step, as Andreas suggested, would be
to "start working out an unofficial Debian package" that could be downloaded
from our webpage. With that said, on at least two most common architectures
(i386, x86_64) we can once such packages are generated, test them here at
Yale and make sure that they work as well as our other binary releases.

I would prefer (as Andreas mentioned) that administrative issues w.r.t. to
inclusion of BioImage Suite in Debian should probably be handled in a
separate e-mail list/or via private e-mail, but my hunch that we are early
in the process and such discussion maybe premature -- I think accomplishing
this first step will keep us busy for a while.

Considering that I can only work on this in my spare time and there are
other general Debian-Med issues on my todo list, I do not think that I
could start before Christmas with any considerable work. If somebody else
would like to give BioImageSuite packages as a Debian-Med Christmas gift
this would be really great. ;-))

Kind regards

       Andreas.
