One thing to be aware of when discussing this kind of feature: it may
happen that a desktop environment pulls stuff in that changes what is
installed into the initramfs, compared to what "standard" would (e.g.
drm modules were in that case, at some point). And the initramfs is
not shipped by those *.squashfs files.
