In konsole (KDE terminal) a bell symbol is displayed, but no sound is played. The same in a text console (e.g. Alt+F2): no sound. After looking on the web I checked the following: the appropriate kernel module pcspkr is loaded, sound card is recognized and configured via alsaconf and sound is working within kde. The kmix mixer doesn't show a volume control for pc speaker. System info: Debian Etch on a HP Compaq nx6310; audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01) Any suggestions?Does the beep work when you switch to a terminal, e.g. with CTRL + ALT + F1?No, there is no sound on a terminal too. What is the output of the following command: grep bell-style /etc/inputrc ~/.inputrc
/etc/inputrc:# set bell-style none /etc/inputrc:# set bell-style visible grep: /home/rallo/.inputrc: No such file or directoryThe two statements in /etc/inputrc are commented out, just like it should be.
I allready checked that. Both end in the same configuration screen for "konsole", where "Bell emitted within visible session" has a sound notification. When I click on test the sound I can hear it. The problem is, that when I e.g. hit backspace in a new konsole session, I see the bell symbol, but no sound is played. In Konsole I would go to "Settings > Bell" and try both "System Bell" and "System Notification". The configuration in "Control Center > Sound & Multimedia > System Bell" might also have an effect.Strange, if I go to the pull down menu "Settings > Bell Style" in Konsole then I can choose between "System Bell", "System Notification", "Visisble Bell" and "None" (konsole version 1.6.6).
Yes, I have these options too. What I didn't try so far is changing the value Bell Style in konsole. Let's see ...
Oh, when I change that to System Notification I get my beep! Sorry, I didn't check that before!
I am wondering, why there is no beep on a text console (e.g. CTRL+ALT+F2). Maybe this is a hardware issue, motherboard chipset or something.
Thanks a lot for your help!
