The problem with your card is that there is a fullmac version and a 
softmac version out there. The kernel prism54 driver works with fullmac 
only and your dmesg indicates a softmac version. You have to use the 
driver for the softmac version from here:
http://jbnote.free.fr/prism54usb/index.html
(look at the bottom of the page). I use a softmac version of this card 
with debian and have no problems at all.
