Movie disappear from VGA out (ati driver)

Hi people,

Those days something weird happened. (It's always something
like that, right?). About six months ago, I saw in an event, a guy
with a notebook playing a video and when he connects the VGA output
to use some external projector everything looks like ok but you can't
see the video. :-)

At that time, I think: "wow! that's pretty strange". About
10 days ago I was giving a talk about Debian in a College and
suddenly when I open one of my videos (showing Debian booting on
a Jornada with sh processor) I discovered that my notebook started
suffering from the same problem.

I'm running Debian "etch" on a Sony Vaio S270P4, it is a
Centrino 1.6 GHz, with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700. Before my talk
(it was on February 22nd) I upgrade my etch, new kernel (2.6.15),
new xorg, new GNOME. Then I use the ATI Installer and get the
proprietary driver working (yeah! I know, but free 3D is not
working for Mobility 9700 so far). I did some tests with Penguin
Racer and other 3D software and everything is just fine.

If I plug a projector in the VGA output the screen is
perfect, I have image in my LCD and in the project, when I open
a video, totem shows up but in the projector just totem appears
in black, no movie/video. I tried with other players (mplayer,
xine) but no success.

Anybody has any idea of what could be? It is the first
time it happens, before it works perfectly. Here are some information
about my packages:

||/ Name           Version        Description

	Kind regards,
