so give 2.4 (no udev) or <=2.6.12 a chance..

..There definitely is some progress in 2.6's pcmcia. Don't ask me if
it's good or bad (short-term) ;)

However, i believe it's higher level that's to blame (wireless-tools or
encryption(?)). There comes a module wlan_wep.ko with my atheros
madwifi (hardware encryption). Is something similar loaded ($ lsmod)?
