Re: orinoco wireless with WEP under kernel 2.6.14-2-686

Hi Richard,

I agree, the 0.15rc2 should work.  I upgraded to this version and, at first, it did not work with WEP.  I felt lucky that it did work after a reboot.  Now, the roaming code is in this driver and it provides WPA, so I have to explore wpa_supplicant stuff all over again.  It's all time in the day and I've already spent a few days on this stuff.  I can only think that somehow I am learning something useful, but truth is that I would rather be using my computer than learning about all these tools.  Anyhow, freedom from winXP feels good, even if it does come with more responsibility.

I can't figure out your issue.  I am wondering if there is some high level conflict in your system configuration.  Have you checked the entire dmesg for any system startup issues?  I see all the network startup logs when my system boots, it's helpful to locate any failures and google the text strings for helpful stuff on how to avoid or fix it.  There are a few packages for wireless networking and they are not all compatible.  I found the Debian documentation useful, but it's out of date, it doesn't refer to wpasupplicant at all.

Take care, Darren

I see there is a 0.15rc4, though, reading the notes, it doesn't look as
though it will fix my issue.  I may try it today if I have time, but I
am not expecting much.
