You can move the Thinkpads harddisk into a desktop computer using a
3,5"-2,5"-IDE-Adapter. Or buy a cheap pcmcia network card. pcmcia, not
cardbus. With only 2 or 3 floppy disk images i was able to install
debian potato on that tp755c, and after the base installation all it
needs is a modification of /etc/apt/sources.list and "apt-get update ;
apt-get dist-upgrade".
