I don't know whether it has SATA, to be honest. I've attached the boot 
log from the Knoppix boot - which uses 2.6.12. SATA is mentioned once in 
there, but, not being an expert in such thing, I'm not sure what that 
means.

In Knoppix, the hard disk partitions mound as /hdc1, 2, 3 and 6. I tried 
Knoppix on a machine with SATA and EIDE hard disks, and the SATA HDs 
mounted as /sda and /sdb. If that helps :-o

However, I'm encouraged by the fact that Knoppix loads, albeit without 
ACPI at the moment.

No can I'm afraid, as the machine locks at the Kernel Panic.

BTW, I am documenting this - optimistic of success - for later 
publication of the solution.
