Additionally, it seems that there are problems with the SATA driver.
Look at http://www.copestake.org/4651lmi.html and
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-356273-highlight-.html. Maybe it's
Gentoo specific, maybe not, but it might be worth a try. You'll have to
disable CONFIG_IDE, enable CONFIG_SCSI_ATA_PIIX and build your own
kernel, though. But given that the laptop is new and you're just
installing the system, I that you've got nothing to loose...
