Well, I personally can recommend orinoco based cards.... though
the design card is rather old, it is relly good supported, has a i think
quite good range & performance, an external antenna connector....

you should be able to get it new, i think proxim sill sell them (just be
carefull...they sell lots of stuff under the "orinoco" brand...sometimes
quite different....

it is 802.11b only though...
